BUG

So both the kids are now recipients of the Being Unbelievably Good (BUG) awards. Avi for the month of September, and Diya for the month of October. And yes, I am a proud mother. Diya is also in the CAR (Champion Reader) intervention program and is supposed to read aloud to us for about 20 minutes a night and will get an award and medal, etc., at the end of the month. Hopefully this school year will be better and more rewarding (pun intended) than last year was. She is very enthusiastic about school and I can see the brightness back in her eyes that was missing almost entirely last year.
Avi is doing well too so far, by God's grace. He loves his teacher but she's only a long time sub until his teacher comes back from maternity leave at the end of January. I wonder how he'll react to a new teacher.

more to come...

I am smart because...

We were on our way home from church and A decided to have a "being smart is important" conversation with the kids. He started off by saying, "Do our kids not want to be smart? I don't think they want to be smart (he used a different term)." To which Avi replied, "Papa, I want to be a smart kid." Diya, on the other hand, just kept quiet. She usually does not give in to Atul's jibes. However, his jibes continued. She could not take it any longer and says," I am the smartest, you know why? because I was the only one today who wore a jacket. I observed and it was going to be chilly!" See, in the morning (before we headed out to church) Atul had commented on how smart she was because she had worn a sweater!
Comes back to bite us, doesn't it?
