On the way back from school

We were stopped at a stop light on our way to pick Avi up. A young boy (rather evident to me) with long, flowing, blond hair decided to cross our path at that light. Diya goes, "Oh my! Look at her!" I was about to correct her and let her know that it was a him, when all of a sudden as he got closer to us, she goes, "what? Is that a him?" what was funny for me was that she did not switch from wow! look at that girl to "is that a boy?" instead her pronouns were well balanced!
Just thought I'd add that to the journal....

Fetishes??

I'm sure you all know about the fetishes both the kids have...Diya, elbows, and Avi, feet. Now, I don't think there's anything wrong with that at all. Seems fairly healthy to me. Some instances of demonstration of these fetishes...
This is when Diya was about 2. We were in church, she was in sunday school. Deepa was in our church then. Manisha was her helper. Anyway, Manisha happened to be wearing a short sleeved shirt that day and she stood up to read a story to the kids. As Manisha stood up to read the book and had gone through may be a couple of sentence, Diya all of a sudden screamed, "Elbow!" and lunged for Manisha's elbow. All she wants to do is touch, feel and maybe smell the elbows, nothing else. Doesn't sound weird, does it? Deepa even says that that's how she will find her husband! Hopefully not! She's six now and may not be AS enchanted by elbows, but she is still intrigued by them!
Avi now has a thing for feet. Yes, it is starting to sound weird to me too! Just the other day, we were heading home from Susan's and it was around 5:30 or so, they asked if their show was on (Curious George) as it happened, it was already over. Anyway, so I told them that they still had some daylight left and they could go out and play on the swingset. Diya said OK. Avi on the other hand said nothing. I asked him what he wanted to do when we got home. His response? I want to have your feet and lie on the sofa and take a little nap! Oh my! talk about funny!
Usually, when I am sitting on the computer and doing stuff, I am required to prop my feet up on the sofa arm and then he literally will just hold on to my feet and ever so gently play with my toes. That's it! Infact, that spot is HIS FEET spot!

Avi's first day of school

Today was Avi's first day of pre-school. I cannot believe how incredibly excited he was. I am sure he's been waiting to go to school, since he has now seen Diya doing it for 3 years. I can only imagine his pent-up excitement to be able to finally relate to his sister and her experiences and be able to share some of his exciting stories.
He's been at the receiving end of all her friends, her school lunches, etc. Now he gets to do it. He can feel grown-up in his own right.
I guess that's why he couldn't wait to get to school today. It did tug at my heart a little bit to see my "baby" let go of my arm and walk into his class with that confidence and familiarity that I did not think could happen. The good thing is that Ms. Stacey is his teacher and so he had a familiar face to see when he got there. "Hi! Ms. Stacy!" and walked right in!
Surprisingly, I did not cry either. Like I said my heart has been palpitating every so often, just thinking about both my babies in school!
I guess I should let them spread their wings and watch them grow gracefully.
Lord, bless my babies. Let them grow closer to you as they grow up...

Diya's first day of school

Her first day of school was Sept. 5. Immediately after labor day. My baby has grown up and is now in first grade. Her teacher is Mrs. Moser. Seems like a very pleasant and cheerful person. Just the kind of person who would be great for chiya. She likes her teacher and is doing well in class, quite unlike last year in KG where she got a time-out on the first day of class. But, quite understandably so, she hadn't been in an "official school setting" before and really was not sure of how she should conduct herself.
In my opinion the teacher should NOT have given any of the kids a time-out on the very first day of schoo, come on!
Anyway, she goes to school happy and comes back happy. Big, big heartwarmer for me.

Polar opposites

Have been thinking about this a bit. My kids are such polar opposites! esp. when it comes to dentist visits. Avi had to have an infected tooth extracted, this boy did not wince once! My goodness! I cringe at the thought of all those injections, the drills and whatnot. He also had to have one tooth crowned (root canal) and 4 more filled! I know bad rundown of his soft teeth, but the dentist said sometimes it's not really a matter of candies and juice, etc. It's more a matter of the genetic material, which he, sadly, gets from me.
So anyway, at this last visit, avi actually fell asleep on the chair! He is the BEST patient they've EVER had (they said it not me!) makes me proud. However, here's the polar opposite part...Diya!
She had her last scheduled appt. in July. Avi was there too. He had is X-rays done, not a problem, not a whimper.
She gets in the chair when it's her turn and FREAKS out. Sobbing hysterically, so much so that the hygienist was exasperated and did not seem at all pleased with her behavior.
Oh well...this is where my worry comes in. Comparison. He is quiet, observant. She is a firecracker, hypersensitive!I don't know...should I worry!
